Bryan McCann, co-founder and CTO of AI search engine You.com, has joined Anthropic as a Member of Technical Staff. McCann holds a PhD from Stanford University in Natural Language Processing, where his research on multitask learning and pre-trained language models helped lay the groundwork for the modern LLM paradigm.
His doctoral work on methods for training models to perform well across multiple NLP tasks simultaneously was widely cited and influenced subsequent approaches to general-purpose language model development. At You.com, McCann co-founded and built the technical infrastructure for an AI-native search engine that raised approximately $45 million in venture funding.
His transition from a startup CTO role to an individual contributor position at Anthropic reflects a pattern seen across the industry where accomplished researchers and founders are drawn to frontier labs by the opportunity to work on the most capable AI systems. At Anthropic, McCann is expected to contribute to research on Claude's core capabilities.
